Big River Fly Fishing

Big River Fly Fishing specializes in boat trips and productive small-mouth fishery located in the Kankakee River, just an hour’s drive from Chicago.

Captain Will Winans, the founder of Big River Flying fish, grew up in Illinois along the Kankakee River. He has fond memories of paddling in waters with his father and brothers. He was introduced to fly fishing through his friend Sam Moore. After being introduced to fly fishing, he developed a deeper bond with this activity.

However, he soon moved to New York, and there he worked in the fly fishing industry where he would teach casting. He also discovered the legendary trout waters of the Catskill Mountains. When he moved to Montana in 2001, he explored free-stone rivers and streams, and since 2006, after working with Chicago Fly Fishing Outfitters, he learned how to sell the industry best types of equipment and taught at Fly Fishing schools.

He turned his passion into a career and took this opportunity to share and teach whatever he learned throughout his life. Big River fly fishing is a mixture of Captain Will Winans’s life’s experiences, which he wishes to share with everyone. You can contact him through his website www.bigriverfly.com for bookings and further information. He is also accepting reservations for the upcoming season.
